Houma – A Homegoing Celebration for Velma Ellis, age 92, will be held on Saturday, June 20, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Howard Third Zion Travelers Baptist Church, 363 Bayou Dularge Road, Houma, Louisiana.

Visitation will begin at 11:00 AM at Howard Third Zion Travelers Baptist Church and conclude at the time of service.

She will be laid to rest at St. Luke Baptist Church Cemetery, 1098 Bayou Dularge Rd., Houma, Louisiana

Velma "MaMee" Harding Ellis, age 92, was born on Monday, October 10, 1933, to the late Henry and Ollie S. Harding in the community of Bayou Dularge. In her early adult years, she married James Ellis, Sr., and together they built a beautiful family filled with love, strength, and cherished memories. Her family was the center of her world and the driving force behind all she did.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James Ellis, Sr.; her parents, Henry and Ollie S. Harding; her granddaughter, Erica White; her great-grandson, Taylor Folse; and numerous siblings and extended family members.

Velma "MaMee" Harding Ellis peacefully entered eternal rest on Friday, June 12, 2026, at 2:23 PM,  surrounded by her loving children, siblings, family, and friends. A lifelong resident of Houma, Louisiana, she leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and devotion that will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her.

She leaves behind precious memories to her children: Anthony M. Ellis of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; James Ellis, Jr. (Sharon), Janell Ellis, and Kathy Smith, all of Houma, Louisiana; her siblings, Hazel Franklin and Hayward Harding; eleven grandchildren; twenty-four great-grandchildren; former daughter-in-law, Celeste D. Ellis; former son-in-law, Rev. Troy Smith; her godchildren, Herbert Franklin and Nyesha Franklin; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

The family has entrusted their loved one to the caring professionals at Davis Family Mortuary, 802 Weldon Street, New Iberia, LA.
