Lafayette - The Homegoing Celebration for Mrs. Ruth Myra Verrett Jack will be held Saturday, June 13, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Good Hope Baptist Church, 1501 E. Willow Street, Lafayette, LA.

Visitation will begin at 8:00 AM at Good Hope Baptist Church and conclude at the time of service.

She will be laid to rest at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 2300 N. University Ave., Lafayette, LA.

Ruth Myra Verrett Jack was born on July 29, 1960, in Franklin, Louisiana, to the cherished union of Rufus and Lottie Verrett. From her earliest years, Ruth's life was marked by a divine sense of calling and purpose. At the age of nine, she surrendered her heart to Jesus Christ and was baptized on August 31, 1969, at Mt. Horeb Baptist Church on Oaklawn Plantation, under the esteemed leadership of the late Pastor J.W. Wells. That act of consecration was not merely a childhood milestone. It was the spiritual bedrock upon which an entire life of distinguished service and unwavering faith would be built.

Ruth graduated with distinction from Franklin High School in 1978 and thereafter pursued higher education at USL, now the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. Her academic achievement was a harbinger of the professional excellence that would come to define her career.

Ruth amassed a professional legacy of remarkable breadth and distinction. For more than 20 years, she served as Administrative Assistant to a senior partner at Anderson & Broussard and Hightower Law Firm, a prominent plaintiff's personal injury practice, where her institutional knowledge and meticulous professionalism made her an invaluable asset. In 2007, she transitioned to the Executive Administrative Assistant role at Allstate Staff Counsel, further demonstrating her leadership capacity in high-demand legal environments. Ruth also served two terms as President of the Lafayette Legal Secretaries Association and was a sustaining member of the Junior League of Lafayette, contributions that reflected both her organizational acumen and her deep investment in the professional community.

In 2010, Ruth channeled her expertise and compassion into entrepreneurship, founding Jacks Tax and Notary Services. Under her capable leadership, the enterprise grew to serve approximately 100 clients, with bookkeeping services extended to small businesses throughout the region. Ruth regarded tax preparation as far more than a professional transaction. It was a ministry. She was tireless in her advocacy for clients navigating complex tax matters, ensuring that each person under her care operated with integrity, received what was rightfully theirs, and left her presence with both clarity and confidence.

Ruth's commitment to the Kingdom of God extended far beyond the local church. She served with distinction as Financial Secretary of the Seventh District Baptist Association for fourteen faithful years. Under her steadfast leadership, she instituted comprehensive checks and balances across all auxiliaries, a structural reform that ensured financial accountability and organizational integrity for years to come. In 2019, when three Baptist churches in the region were devastated by fire, Ruth and Association President Dr. Freddie J. Jack responded with immediate, inspired action, launching a GoFundMe campaign that galvanized the nation and raised more than $2 million for the affected congregations. It was a real-time demonstration of what consecrated leadership accomplishes when it meets crisis with courage. Ruth also worked with the Finance Committee of the National Baptist Convention.

On November 19, 2005, Ruth entered into holy matrimony with Dr. Mason T. Jack at St. James Baptist Church, forging a covenant of love and companionship that would be treasured across twenty devoted years. She was, above all else, a woman who cherished her family. She delighted in travel, possessed a refined taste for shopping, and found quiet joy and creative fulfillment in the craft of woodworking. She and Dr. Jack shared a deep and abiding affection for their beloved dog, Izzy.

Ruth Myra Verrett Jack departed this life, leaving an indelible impression upon every soul she encountered. She leaves to cherish her memory her loving husband of twenty years, Dr. Mason T. Jack; her brothers, Hilton Verrett (The late Bobbie Verrett), Rev. Keith Verrett (Beverly), Bertis Verrett (Mary), and Calvin Verrett (Amy); one sister, Dora Verrett; goddaughters Andrea and Raelyn Verrett; and a beloved host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and devoted friends whose lives are immeasurably richer for having known her.

Mrs. Ruth Myra Verrett Jack walked into her heavenly home on Sunday, May 31, 2026, at the age of 65. She was a native of Franklin, LA and a resident of Lafayette, LA.
