Precious Memories of Olena Rose Verdun-Arrington

New Iberia - A Mass of Christian Burial Celebrating the life of Olena Rose Verdun Arrington, 77, will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, March 28, 2025 at St. Edward Catholic Church, 175 Ambassador W. Lemell Dr., New Iberia, LA . Pastor Donald Bernard will be the celebrant.

Her earthly frame will await the resurrection in the mausoleum section of St. Nicholas Catholic Church Cemetery following the funeral mass.

Visitation will be on Thursday, March 27, 2025 at 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM and will resume on Friday, March 28, 2025 commencing at 8:00 AM and concluding at 10:45 AM with the recitation of the rosary at 9:00 AM with tributes to follow on Friday at the Davis Family Mortuary Chapel, 802 Weldon St., New Iberia, LA.

Olena was born on Monday, October 6, 1947 to the union of the now deceased, Paul Verdun and Zenobia Boutte Verdun in Jeanerette, LA.  She attained her education in the schools of Iberia Parish and was a graduate of Francis M. Boley High School, Class of-1964.  She worked at Iberia Medical Center in New Iberia, LA for several years as a Nurse's Aide. She then decided to enlist in the United States Air Force.  She received numerous awards and Medals of commendations. She was honorably discharged after twenty years of service.  While in the military, she met the love of her life Calvin "Ron" Arrington, Sr. and soon after they were married on December 19, 1977. Her commitment to her country did not end after her retirement but she continued to serve in the local VFW Post # 1982. Olena was proud to be A US Veteran. She later began working for the US Postal service, first in Breaux Bridge, LA and finally retired from the New Iberia, LA Main Post Office on October 9, 2009.

She was baptized into the catholic faith at St. Nicholas Catholic Church. She and Ron later united St. Jude Catholic Chapel in Olivier, LA, where they attended mass faithfully and fully supported the church. Her faith was unshakeable. She also enjoyed visiting and worshipping with other churches. Olena loved people and would do whatever she could to help and was an encourager. She had an infectious smile that brightened up the room.  She loved to travel and enjoyed going to the local casino.

In addition to her parents, she is reunited with her brother, Alvin Verdun; her grandparents, Gabriel and Agatha Boutte Verdun and Alvin and Anita Boutte; and her father and mother-in-law; Waverly and Louise Murray Arrington. Olena entered the Lord's rest on Tuesday, March 18, 2025 in Lafayette, LA and is now reunited with those gone on before. We will miss her, but we don't mourn as those who have no hope for our hope is in the Lord Jesus Christ.

Olena leaves to celebrate her life, love and legacy includes, her husband, Calvin "Ron" Arrington, Jr. of Grand Marais, LA; her son, Calvin "Lil Ron" Arrington, Jr of McDonough, GA; two sisters, Melva (Johnny) Patton, Jr. of Grand Marais, LA and Irma Jean Verdun of Lafayette, LA; brothers and sisters-in-law, Geraldine "Deanie" Verdun of Grand Marais, LA; Aurelia Cleo Battle of Shalimar, FL, Samuel Calhoun Arrington of Los Angeles, CA, and Antoinette Christian of Lexington, SC; bonus son, Pastor Trent Davis of New Iberia, LA; five grandchildren, Ronald (Mimi) Landry of McDonough, GA , Shanteal Moore of Detroit, MI, Jonathan Arrington , Savannah, GA and Vincent Arrington of San Antonio, TX; nine great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.

Ecclesiastes 3:11 and God makes all things beautiful in His own time.  We thank God for giving us Olena.
