Houma - A Homegoing Celebration for Mary Alice Bonvillain Nixon, 83, will be held on Saturday, February 14th, 2026 at 10:00 AM at Howard 3rd Zion Travelers Baptist Church, 363 Bayou Dularge Rd., Dularge, LA. Pastor Willie Bonvillain, III, officiating Pastor.

Her earthly resting place will be in Emmanuel Baptist Church Cemetery 2709 Senator St., Houma, LA.

She will lie in repose on Saturday from 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM at the church, Howard 3rd Zion Travelers Baptist Church, 363 Bayou Dularge Rd., Dularge, LA.

Mary was born on Monday, December 7, 1942, to the union of the late Willie and Emma Rutledge Bonvillain in Grand Caillou, LA. She attained her education in the schools of Terrebonne Parish and was a graduate of St Lucy Catholic High School, class of 1960.

Mary met Chester Nixon, Sr. (who preceded her in death), and they were later married in November 1963. God blessed this union with five children. Being entrepreneurs they successfully owned and operated Chester Nixon, Sr. Cement Finishing Company, Nixon Trucking, and Nixon Rental Apartments. Working alongside her husband, she was the administrator and accountant for all three businesses. As a means of giving back, they employed and trained several young men in the community the art of cement finishing. Some of which now successfully own and operate their own businesses.

Mary accepted Christ as a young girl and was baptized at Morning Star Baptist Church in Grand Caillou, LA.  She was never a bench member, but she served faithfully as a deaconess at both her home churches, Morning Star and Howard Third Zion Travelers Baptist Churches. She was a past member of Israelite Baptist Church and St. James Baptist Church. She also frequently fellowshipped with Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church. She really loved the Lord.

She loved traveling with her kids and grandkids, going camping, cruising, and going out to eat. One of her greatest joys was cooking and she would feed anyone. Her favorite restaurant was Acme Oyster House.

In addition to her husband and parents, she is now reunited with her son, Chester Nixon, Jr.; her siblings and their spouses, Earl (Viola) Bonvillain, Willie Bonvillain, Jr., Albert Bonvillain, Harry(Jackie) Bonvillain, Sr., Paul (Beverly) Bonvillain, Sr., James (Florence) Bonvillain, Dorothy (Milton) Stevenson, Ora (Roy) Norman, Leola (Elmon) Torrey, sister-in-law, Joyce Bonvillain; and her father and mother-in-law, Wesley, Sr. and Elizabeth Sims Nixon.  Mary peacefully entered eternal rest on Tuesday, February 3, 2026 surrounded by her family at her bedside. "Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints. Psalm 116:15"

Mary loved life and her legacy will always be cherished by, her children, Darnell Nixon, Clark Nixon, Cassius (Lashawn) Nixon and Penny (Lester) Stewart, all of Houma, LA; her two siblings, Delores (Nilo, Sr.) Johnson of Grand Caillou, LA and James Bonvillain, Sr. of Houma, LA; one sister-in-law, Josephine Bonvillain of Grand Caillou, LA; three godchildren, Michael Bonvillain, Sr. of Grand Caillou, LA, and Bernadette Wallace and Suzette Johnson, both of Houma, LA; thirty-three grandchildren and thirty-eight great-grandchildren; as well as numerous, nieces, nephews, and her extended family in the Houma community. "Servant of God well done, A life well lived and a rest well earned".

The family has entrusted their loved one to the caring professionals at Davis Family Mortuary, 802 Weldon Street, New Iberia, LA.
