New Iberia - It is with great sadness that the Cuero family announces the passing of their dearly beloved Mary Lou Johnson Cuero at the age of 71. She transitioned on Wednesday, September 16, 2026 in New Iberia, Louisiana.

A service to honor her life will be held Saturday, September 26, 2026 at 11:00 AM at Davis Family Mortuary Chapel, 802 Weldon Street, New Iberia, LA.

The family may be greeted beginning at 10:00 AM at Davis Family Mortuary Chapel and conclude at the time of service.

On August 21, 1955, in New Iberia, Louisiana, Mary Lou Johnson-Cuero was born to the late Mary L.A. Johnson and Alfred Olivier , of Loreauville LA also lovingly raised under the care and guidance of her stepfather, the late Henry Johnson Sr. To her family and friends she was affectionately known as “Lou Lou”. She was a native resident of Oakland California and later moved to Houston Tx.

At an early age, Mary Lou accepted Christ and became a member of St. Edward Catholic Church, where her faith remained a cherished and meaningful part of her life.

On September 16, 2026, Mary Lou peacefully answered the call of her Heavenly Father. In the stillness of that sacred moment, she heard a gentle voice say, “My child, come home to Me.” With faith in her heart, she softly replied, “Yes, Lord.” Having completed her earthly journey, Mary Lou closed her eyes and entered eternal rest with her Lord and Savior.

As she entered her heavenly home, we can imagine her beloved mother, Mary L.A Johnson, lovingly welcoming her home. What a beautiful reunion it must have been—one filled with love, peace, and the comfort of being together again.

Mary Lou will be remembered for her beautiful smile, her loving spirit, and the treasured memories she created with those around her. Her presence brought warmth, comfort, and joy to the lives of her family, friends, and all who had the blessing of knowing her. Though she has departed this earthly life, the love she gave and the memories she created will remain deeply rooted in the hearts of those she leaves behind.

Mary Lou Johnson-Cuero was preceded in death by her parents, Mary A. Johnson and Alfred Olivier; her stepfather, Henry Johnson Sr.; her son, C. Fletcher; her sisters, Betty J. Boutte and Peggy Choyce Vaguer; her brothers, Carrol Johnson, Henry Johnson, Jimmy Johnson, and Wilfred Johnson; her aunts, Dorothy “Dot” Elizabeth Ambrose and Willie Mae Ambrose; her uncles, Russell Lee Ambrose, Leonard Ambrose, and Arthur Ambrose; her brother-in-law, Arthur Reno; her sister-in-law, Bernidean Johnson; her maternal grandmother, Melvina Ambrose; and her paternal grandmother, Louise Olivier.

Mary Lou leaves to cherish her precious memory her four children: Tedtra L. Johnson, Chanele Cuero, Terrell Cuero,(Elizebeth) and Jahoric Cuero,(Jourdyn) a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren; her sisters: Lardy Reno and Annie McFarlin, all of New Iberia, Louisiana; her aunts: Deloris(Alfred) and Audrey of New Iberia, Louisiana; Edward Ambrose of Port Arthur, Texas; her brother-in-law, Pedro Boutte of Olivier, Louisiana; along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and dear friends.

Mary Lou’s life was a gift to all who knew and loved her. Though her physical presence is no longer with us, her love, her smile, and the memories she created will continue to comfort and inspire those she leaves behind. Her legacy will live on through her family, her loved ones, and the many hearts she touched. “Well done, my good and faithful servant.” — Matthew 25:23
