Lafayette – A Mass of Christian Burial For Mary Earline Adams, 78, on Saturday, August 2, 2025 at 11:00 AM, at Immaculate Heart Of Mary Catholic Church, 818 12th Street, Lafayette, LA. Fr. Arockia Sebastian Mariasusai, Celebrant. Deacon Nolton Senegal, Concelebrant.

Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM and conclude at 11:00 AM, with the Recitation of the Rosary at 9:30 AM at the Church on Saturday.

Entombment will follow the mass at Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum.

With hearts full of gratitude and love, we honor and celebrate the remarkable life of Mary "Earline" Adams, who entered eternal rest on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.

Born on October 2, 1946, in Lafayette, Louisiana, to Cecile Sylvester. Earline was a beacon of light, love, and legacy. As a young girl, she was lovingly raised by Elvina and Earl Peter, whose nurturing foundation shaped her into the bold, faithful woman we were blessed to know.

Raised in Maurice, Louisiana, Earline graduated from James M. Herod High School, later earning an associate degree in Drafting and Design from Gulf Vocational and Technical College. She made history as the first African American female draftsman employed at Conoco Oilfield Company—a bold trailblazer who carved her own path in a male-dominated field with poise and power.

Her professional career continued with notable roles, including Account Executive at the Daily Advertiser, a pivotal team member at Louisiana Physicians Corporation, and later as Director's Assistant at the Area Council on Aging, where she proudly supported senior citizens in our community with care and excellence.

Earline's life was defined by grit and grace. She battled cancer for many years, yet her faith never wavered. With her radiant smile and her favorite words— "I am blessed—Thank you, Jesus"—she poured hope into everyone she encountered. A courageous warrior and a willing witness, she shared her testimony often, particularly with those newly diagnosed, becoming a spiritual lifeline for many.

A proud member of the Sassy Sisters Social Club in the 1980s and co-founder of The Queen's in 2020—a birthday celebration group of dear friends—Earline lived her life in joyful community, never missing a moment to uplift, support, or celebrate someone else.

When it came to dancing, Earline didn't just show up, she showed out. She was the undisputed Queen of the Dance Floor, dazzling crowds with her Swing Out and Zydeco skills. She taught, performed, and won countless dance contests with a signature blend of sass and class that left her mark on every floor she touched.

A true Southern belle with style and spice, Earline also loved playing Pokeno at the Green House on Tuesdays, getting in a good Thursday workout, and keeping her calendar full of fellowship and fun.

A devout Catholic, she worshipped faithfully at both Immaculate Heart of Mary and Queen of Peace Catholic Churches. Even through illness, she remained steadfast in faith, lifting her voice in praise and gratitude.

Above all, Earline's most treasured roles were those of mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She adored her children, Chanda Renata (Christopher) Moffett and Donald Christopher Adams, and poured her whole heart into raising them with love and wisdom.

She was affectionately known as "Nana" to her beloved grandchildren:Aaliyah (CJ) Pollard, Briah (Keahi) Robin, Cailey (Elliot) Moffett, Christopher Moffett Jr., and Dorion Moffett; and to her cherished great-grandbabies—whom she lovingly called her "King and Queen"—Kingston Pollard and Ezri Washington, she was more than Mimi; she was their royal protector and biggest fan.

Earline is survived by her siblings: Rose Marie Brown of Cade, Louisiana; Eula (Riley) Green, Shelia Sylvester, James "Jimmy" Sylvester of Lafayette, Louisiana; and Diane Sylvester of New York, New York. Her legacy lives on through a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, longtime friends, and former colleagues.

She now joins in eternal joy those who went before her, including her parents and beloved brother-in-love, Oliver Brown, Jr., surely dancing again—whole and vibrant—in the presence of her Savior.

Mary "Earline" Adams was a trailblazer, a faith warrior, a Queen of rhythm and resilience, and a true community gem. Her story is not just one to be remembered, it is one to be celebrated, lived out, and passed on. She taught us to walk boldly, love deeply, dance freely, and always, always give thanks and praise to God.
