Houma - Homegoing Celebration for La'Quanna Smith, 43, will be held Saturday, August 9, 2025, at 10:00 AM at Dularge Community Baptist Church, 549 Andrew Street, Houma, LA. Rev. Kirkland C. Aitkens, officiant.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 9, 2025, at 9 AM until the time of service at Dularge Community Baptist Church, 549 Andrew Street, Houma, LA.

Final services have been entrusted to the professionals at New Generation House of Funerals, 309 Murry Street, Conroe, Texas.

Local arrangements have been provided by Davis Family Mortuary, 802 Weldon Street, New Iberia, LA.

La'Quanna Kanisha Smith was born in the year of our Lord 1982 on January 7th to the parentage of Clyde and Michelle Jones Smith. She is affectionately known as Shorty by family and her many friends. Always ready for a blessing, she was baptized at an early age by the late Reverend Claude Moses at the Residence Baptist Church in Mechanicville.

La'Quanna received her early education in the Terrebonne Parish school system. La'Quanna was not blessed with motherhood but showered every child she had the opportunity to meet with the motherly love shown to her that she knew should be shared in helping to rear many of her relatives and godchildren!

La'Quanna shared a special bond with her nephews Nazyin and Siyon Smith, along with her great nephew Aamir Johnson. Although she had many, many good friends; her childhood friend Nikita Castle is that extra special friend!

To know Shorty was to love her. She had a heart of gold, for her family and friends whom she engaged in many social activities and vacations with.

After returning from California, helping to care for her mother, she was accepted as a member of Christ Agape Outreach Ministries with her mother as her guide. Again, she forged a loving relationship with her church family and many times during her illness, she pressed her way to the church house for worship and prayer.

The sands of time with its glass filled to the brim…. has slowly spilled its contents, and with the passing of the last sand, went the life of our dear lovely Shorty on July 27th in this year of our Lord 2025 at the hour of seven-twenty-five a.m. God granted her admission in his care.

Shorty leaves sweet memories in the hearts of her parents, Michelle (Glenn) Green and Isaac Welch Jr., her sisters, Shanta (Alfred) Smith, Cherrykey (David) Poindexter, Trakinna (Kenny) Poindexter, Sahinnah Johnson, Kema (Byron) Green, Lakeyna Ward, Jasmine Allen, Keisha Clay along with her brother, Clyde Anthony Poindexter. Mourning her demise are her first cousins who were reared as siblings, Chenell, Chaka Khan, Lashawn, Dominique, Lakita, Earl, Wilbert and Melvin along with her grandmother, Minnie Louise Dillard and her bonus grandparents, William and Annie Mae Nells Jr.  Mourning Shorty's demise are her aunts, Robin Matthews, Sandra Hampton, Shalinda Williams, Brenda Simmons, Lynette K. Ray, Amy Miller, Velma Jackson, Glenda Shepherd and Beverly Parker.

Shorty is survived by her uncles, Albert Smith and Clifford Holden, her godchildren, Wallace Jenkins, Azriel Mitchell, Kevarie Smith, Jordan Thomas and Aries Hebert, a devoted friend of twenty-five years, Alfred Nevis, a host of nieces, nephews, great aunts, uncles, other relatives and friends along with her doggie Coco Smith.

In the writings of Romans 8:13, "For whether we live, we live unto the Lord; and whether we die, we die unto the Lord; whether we live therefore, or die, we are the Lord's. Preceding her demise is her father, Clyde Anthony Smith, her maternal grandparents Theresa Jones Nells and Tommie Carter, her paternal grandparents, Francis and Jessie Holden and Alvin Smith, her great grandparents, Herman and Anna Holden, along with Walter and Francis and Louella Jones, her aunts, Lou Ella Nells, Beverly Brown, Theresa Fusilier, Evelyn Pierce, Dorothy Lagarde, Colleen Miller and her uncle, John Allen Fusilier. Again, in the writings of Romans 8:13 "For whether we live, we live unto the Lord; and whether we die we die unto the Lord; whether we live therefore, or die, we are the Lord's!!!
