Remembering Gerald J Batiste
September 3, 1937 - March 8, 2025

Jeanerette – A Mass of Christian Burial for Gerald J. Batiste will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, March 14, 2025, at Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church, 11200 Old Jeanerette Road, Jeanerette, LA.  with Father Francis Damoah will be the Celebrant.

He will be laid to rest at Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church Cemetery.

Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM and conclude at 1100 AM on Friday at the church with the recitation of the rosary at 100:0 AM.

Gerald was born on Friday, September 3, 1937 to the union of the late Eurik Batiste and Florence Malveaux Batiste in St. Martinville, LA

Gerald was a devoted member of Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church and served as a lay minister. His love for his country led him to enlist in the United States Air Force, where he proudly served before receiving an honorable discharge. Gerald furthered his education at Southern University in Baton Rouge, LA, and later enjoyed a fulfilling career with Shell Oil Company, from which he eventually retired.

Throughout his final days, Gerald was devotedly cared for by his nephew, Alvin Gerard Jean-Baptiste and his niece, Gail Simmons. Their unwavering dedication and selfless commitment to his well-being were evident every day. Alvin and Gail devoted countless hours to ensuring that Gerald was comfortable and supported in his home, offering not only physical assistance but also emotional comfort. Their kindness, patience, and tireless efforts brought peace to his final days, and their deep devotion will never be forgotten.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Eurick and Florence Malveaux Jean-Baptiste; his sisters, Mae Willow Jean-Baptiste and Delta Mae Jean-Baptiste Simmons (and her husband, Reverend John Simmons, Sr.); two aunts, Eva Bell Jean-Baptiste Celestine and Helen Allen Jean-Baptiste; an uncle, Louis Jean-Baptiste, Jr.; nieces, Constance Maire Simmons, Drusella King Rideaux Felix; and a nephew, Cornelius "Mark" King Jr. He was also predeceased by his great-nephew, Robert Francisco King, as well as his grandparents, Fernest Joseph Malveaux and Eugene' Mouton and Louis Jean-Baptiste, Sr., and Rose Jaquet..

Gerald's precious memories will always be cherished by his best friend and beloved wife of sixty years, Gloria J. Shannette-Batiste of Four Corners, LA; his nephew, whom he raised as his own son, Albert Jean-Baptiste of Atlanta, GA; and his sister, Mary Lessie Jean-Baptiste King Perro of New Iberia, LA. He also leaves behind his aunt, Emily J. Baptiste-Henry of Michigan, along with a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends who will forever cherish his memory.
