Celebration of Life

Ms. Diane Provost Butler Dorsey

A Homegoing Celebration will be held for Ms. Diane Provost Butler Dorsey, 78 at 11:00 AM on Friday, November 8, 2024 at Star Pilgrim Baptist Church,  423 E. Pershing St., New Iberia, LA. Pastor Donald Wright, Jr. officiating.

Entombment to follow at Zion Travelers Baptist Church Cemetery, New Iberia, LA.

A gathering of family and friends will be on Friday at the church 9:00 AM until time of service.

Diane Dorsey was born on Thursday, June 13, 1946 to the union of the late Elijah Provost , Sr. and Josephine Davis Provost in New Iberia, LA.

She was a longtime member of Star Pilgrim Baptist Church and a devoted member of the senior choir.  She worked as a cook at Hardee's Resturant, A'Bear's Diner and Rita's Cafe.  Ms. Diane also worked at Salon of Glamour and I Care Daycare Center for many years along with her longtime friend Ethel Taylor.  Ms. Diane was loved by all the kids in Bacmonila Garden Apartments, they all would come to her home because she was always cooking something good and very welcoming to others, even the insurance collectors were always looking to eat a plate of Ms. Diane's food every time they came around.  Ms. Diane had a hand for hair and makeup.  She could make you look like a superstar.  Friends and family were always coming over for her to fix them up.  Ms. Diane always kept herself looking like a model that stepped out of a magazine. A true TREASURE that was Ms. Diane.

She is now joined in glory with her parents, Elijah Provost, Sr. and Josephine Davis Provost; a daughter, Quar'Nisha L. Provost; a granddaughter, Crystal A. Sigure; maternal grandparents, Jules and Stella Davis; three brothers, Elijah "Took-a-Took" Provost, Jr., Etienne Provost and Ben Mitchell, two sisters; Josephine "Tee-Ta" James and Bessie Mae Dudley; and two best friends, Mary Rhymes and Ethel Taylor. Diane passed at 7:20pm on Saturday, October 26, 2024 at her residence in Lafayette, LA with her family at her bedside.

Diane leaves to cherish her memory and in God's care five daughters; Mary E.M. Butler-Sigure of New Iberia,LA Veronica Bell of Orange TX, Holly (Murray) Sheppard of Jeanerette, Chantilla M. Dorsey and Quin'Shata L. Provost, both of Lafayette, LA; a special grandson, Vincent T. Butler, whom she raised as her own.  Her loving dog, Meko, whom she called her son; two brother, Jules T. (Mary Nell) Provost of New Iberia and Robert (Andrea) Provost of Jeanerette, LA; two sisters, Ethel Stokes and Elizabeth Wilson, both of New Iberia, LA; eighteen grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends; and her very special family friend who was always there, no matter what.
