Funeral services for Boretha Jones Pouncy, 80, who passed away on Monday, February 2, 2026, will be held on Saturday, February 14, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Davis Family Mortuary Chapel, 802 Weldon Street, New Iberia, LA.

Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM and conclude at the time of service on Saturday, February 14, 2026, at Davis Family Mortuary Chapel, 802 Weldon Street, New Iberia, LA.

She will be laid to rest at Sorrell Community Cemetery, Sorrell, LA

"I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith. Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day." 2 Timothy 4:7-8

Born on July 26, 1945, in Weeks Island, LA, Boretha was the beloved daughter of Ethon and Ella Louise Jones and grew up in Four Corners, LA. She graduated from Willow Street High School in Franklin, LA, in 1963. She later moved to Houston, TX, where she married Rev. Earnest Pouncy Jr. on March 15, 1969. Together, they built a home grounded in love, prayer, and unwavering devotion to God. She retired from Southwestern Bell in the late 1990s. Tragically, her husband, Rev. Earnest Pouncy Jr., departed this life on September 11, 1998.

As a mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend, Boretha nurtured others with gentle wisdom, a listening ear, and a heart that reflected Christ's love. She was an active member of St. Peter Catholic Church in Four Corners, LA, until moving to Texas, where she was later baptized into the Baptist faith. She later became a devoted member of Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist Church in Houston, TX, under the leadership of the late Rev. Earnest Burnside, and continued to serve faithfully under Pastor Kenneth W. Issac until she was physically unable to attend regularly.

Boretha was not only a devoted friend and minister's wife but also a faithful servant in many areas of ministry. She was a senior choir member, a teacher of both the Senior Mission and Sunday School, and the president of the Seniors on the Go group. Her dedication extended to the Pastors' Aide Committee and the Women of Virtue Mission, where her leadership and compassion touched many lives. Her influence reached far beyond the church walls. Boretha served as the treasurer of the Minister Wives Association and volunteered her time to senior activities at the Hiram Clarke Multi-Service Center and the Houston Public Library, continuing her lifelong commitment to service and community.

Boretha leaves behind a beautiful legacy in her family: her daughter, Penny Pouncy-Taylor (John Taylor), Sharon Pouncy, and Linda Pouncy (stepdaughters), and her sons, Earnest Pouncy (Raushanah Pouncy) and Christopher Pouncy. She is cherished by five granddaughters-Terencia Pouncy, Brittani Cooper, Yasmin Martinez, Destiny Pouncy (Mother Yanira Rodriguez), and Khalia Chapell-and five grandsons-Jason Pouncy, Anthony Pouncy, Caleb Pouncy, Brandon Furlough, and Joseph Furlough. She is also survived by four great granddaughters-Asia Coleman, Brielle Cooper, Samiyah Williams-Pouncy, and Aaliyah Chapell-and five great grandsons-Jayron Hill, Kentrell Francis, Ryan Pouncy, Juwelz Price, and Kyrin Chapell. Her sisters, Ella Mae Stacy and Shirley Jones-Purvey (Robert Purvey), along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, will forever cherish her memory.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ethon and Ella Louise Jones; her beloved husband, Earnest Pouncy Jr.; and her four sisters: Barbara McFarlin, Orena Benson, Ethel Jolivette, and Hilda Mae Colbert.

Though she will be deeply missed, we rejoice to know she is now in the presence of her Savior-free from pain, wrapped in peace, and filled with everlasting joy.
